The Barricalla plant, which was built following a strict evaluation of potential environmental impacts, has a surface of around 150.000 metres, a total volume of 912.000 cubic metres and is divided in four lots. Of these 2 have been exhausted and the re-qualification of the area has already started.

The fourth lot, which is now being built, has been opened in 2009, in the same year the third lot, with its elevated banking, will be exhausted.
The entire structure has been planned with the aim of guaranteeing the greatest reliability, with extremely high levels of passive safety. The waste, after strict lab analysis has been conducted on all inbound samples, is placed in the dump through multi-layer cultivation. When the maximum capacity of the landfill has been reached it will be hermetically sealed with technologies (clay and HPDE), which are completely waterproof and will undergo a process of redevelopment with the use of local soil and vegetation.
Inside and in the immediate surroundings of the plant there is an active net of sensors that allow a constant comprehensive environmental monitoring of soil, water and air to prevent all sorts of possible contamination as a result of the facility's activities.
