Monitoring of the ground water quality

The Barricalla plant has been planned with a high degree of water-proofing and thus the chance of an eventual contamination of the underground water sources is quite unlikely.

However even if the chances of contamination are pretty slim, in case such an event happens by accident, the production of leachate, which is the only liquid that could contaminate the ground water deposit, is constantly monitored and so are the chemical characteristics of the water source itself.

The monitoring of the water source is conducted in water level pits placed both upstream and downstream from the plant, where the water levels and chemical composition are analyzed. Every three months more detailed and in-depth exams are conducted, the results are forwarded to the control institutions.
